Prostate and Breast Cancer: Prevalence, Causes, and Prevention
On November 11, 2022, Jadara University's College of Pharmacy and Allied Medical Sciences organized an informative lecture on prostate and breast cancer awareness for the local community. The event coincided with Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and aimed to educate and engage the wider local community.
The lecture was held under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Mohammed Talib Obeidat, the President of the University. Titled "Prostate and Breast Cancer: Prevalence, Causes, and Prevention," the lecture was presented by Dr. Ahmed Mohammad Khair Al-Haifawi.
The event saw participation from the local community, including the Deputy and Advisor to the University President, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Taamneh, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Ramadan Shdaifat, faculty members, and a group of students.
During the lecture, Dr. Obeidat highlighted the university's commitment to social responsibility and its role in disseminating knowledge beyond campus boundaries. He commended the College of Pharmacy for its efforts in raising awareness about these prevalent health issues.
Dr. Al-Haifawi's lecture provided valuable insights into breast and prostate cancers, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention. He explained the prevalence, symptoms, and stages of these diseases, as well as screening methods. The lecture also addressed the role of the local community, families, and individuals in promoting awareness and early detection.
Prostate cancer was a particular focus, with information on its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention measures. The lecture underscored the university's commitment to serving the broader community and enhancing health awareness.
Towards the end of the event, Dr. Ayman Al-Omari, a faculty member in the College of Pharmacy, organized competitions for the attendees, with prizes awarded to the winners. In recognition of Dr. Al-Haifawi's informative lecture, Dr. Obeidat presented him with an award and a certificate of appreciation.
